Introduction

  • The original superfood, millets are ideally suited to the land, climate, and agricultural practises of India.

  • Millets grow in all types of soil and weather conditions it also give the proper nutrients for nourishment and growth, as well as also demand the least amount of input. Millets are an important food because of their qualities.

Nutrition benefit

  • Due to their high mineral, vitamin, and fibre content, millets have a number of health benefits.

  • Niacin, or vitamin B3, is a micronutrient present in millets that is important for healthy digestion, nerve function, and normal metabolism. It is an essential nutrient, which means that the body cannot synthesise it and must get it from the food we eat.

  • Millets are a great diet for diabetic and PCOD patients since they contain nutrients like magnesium, zinc, and fibre.

  • Millets include folic acid, which is beneficial for skin health, fertility, and iron absorption.

Reason to adopt millets in diet

  • The world is facing a number of chronic illnesses and health problems.

  • India was placed 100th out of 119 nations in the 2017 World Hunger Index study.

  • India received a worse grade than Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal . According to reports, 84,000 people died from a lack of other essential nutrients such iron, iodine, and vitamin A, while 4,69,000 people died from protein energy malnutrition (PEM) .

  • In India, where the prevalence rate for obesity is 11% for men and 15% for women, it is also a significant health issue.
