Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela

Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela

  • The Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM) was recently held by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) as part of the Skill India Mission.
  • The event saw the participation of numerous businesses from various industries, giving them the chance to meet potential apprentices on a single platform, make immediate hiring decisions, and give applicants a chance to work for their company.

What are the PMNAM's Key Points?

  • Every month, apprenticeship melas are held under the NSDM, and chosen individuals are given a stipend in accordance with government standards in order to develop new skills.
  • PMNAM is being used as a platform to boost institutions' and students' participation. Additionally, it informs young people about the variety of opportunities offered by the participating businesses.
  • This program's main goal is to persuade businesses to take on more apprentices while also helping them find the right talent and help them reach their full potential through education and hands-on experience.
  • By the end of 2022, it hopes to increase the number of apprenticeship opportunities in India to 10 lakh, and to 60 lakh by 2026.
  • To accomplish this mission, the government is working to train 1 million youth annually through apprenticeship training.

About Skill India Mission:

On July 15, 2015, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship announced the launch of the Skill India Mission.

  • The National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme and the Skill Loan scheme are among the initiatives.
  • By offering compensation to candidates who successfully complete authorised skill training programmes, PMKVY encourages the development of new skills.
  • Loans ranging from RS 5,000 to 1.5 lakh are made available to young people who want to enrol in skill development programmes under the Skill Loan Scheme.
  • It was started in order to offer a solid institutional framework for putting into action and stepping up skill development initiatives across the nation.

What different initiatives have been made to develop skills?

  • Other significant skilling interventions include SANKALP and STRIVE, which aim to enhance the performance of ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes) and focus on the district-level skilling ecosystem, respectively.
  • Multiple Ministries' Initiatives: 20 central ministries/departments are responsible for implementing nearly 40 skill development programmes.
  • About 55% of the skill development is credited to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
  • Since 2015, nearly four crore people have received training through various traditional skills programmes thanks to initiatives by all ministries.
  • Mandatory CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Expenditure in Skilling: Since the Companies Act of 2013 implemented mandatory CSR spending, corporations in India have invested over 100,000 crores in a variety of social projects.
  • Out of these, 6.877 crores were spent on initiatives to improve skills and livelihoods. The top five recipients were Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.
  • TEJAS Initiative for Skill Development at the Dubai Expo 2020, TEJAS (Training for Emirates Jobs and Skills), a Skill India International Project to train Indians living abroad, was unveiled.
  • The project aims to prepare Indian workers for the skill and market requirements in the UAE by providing them with training, certification, and opportunities to work abroad.
