Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission

Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) was formed when the state of Andhra Pradesh formed on 1 November 1956. Earlier, the commission was known as the Andhra Service Commission (formed in 1953) which is based on the regulations of Madras Public Service Commission. Later in 1956, APPSC was formed by merging the Andhra Public Service Commission and Hyderabad Public Service Commissions.

There are total 169 Group 1 (Assistant Commissioner of State Tax in A.P. State Tax Services, Deputy Supdt. of Police (Civil) Cat-2 in A.P. Police Service, Deputy Supdt. of Jails (MEN) in A.P. Jail Service, Assistant Prohibition & Excise Superintendent in A.P. Excise Service, Mandal Parishad Development Officer in A.P. Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Service, and Other Vacancies). Well, the Officials of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission are accepting the Applications in the Online Format.

Group 1 Services Exam

The APPSC Group 1 Exam Details for exam year are given below:

As per the Andhra Pradesh publc service commssion(APPSC) eligibility rules, there is the provision of reservation for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, Women, Persons with Disability and Meritorious Sports Persons . For claiming reservation benefits under SC/ST/BC, candidates must have a domicile of Andhra Pradesh .

On the date of notification, APPSC Group 1 candidates must fulfil these eligibility conditions:

  • Indian Citizen
  • Degree from a recognised Central/State university or an equivalent qualification
  • APPSC Group 1 Age Limit:
    • Minimum Age – 18 years
    • Maximum Age – 42 years

There are varying age limits, physical and educational requirements depending on the service.

Candidates can check the specific eligibility conditions based on the Post Code of the services on the official website.

Age relaxation (concession in upper age limit) can also be availed by persons belonging to different categories (SC/ST/BC/Ex-Servicemen etc.)

Stage 1: Prelims Exam Pattern

  • Science and Technology – 30 marks
  • Current Events of Regional, National and International importance – 30 marks

Both the papers of Preliminary exam are conducted on the same day in offline mode (Pen-Paper).

Stage 2: Mains Exam Pattern

Note: Minimum qualifying marks are – 40 % (OC), 35%(BC), 30% (SC/ST/PH)

  1. Paper 1 – Essay – on contemporary themes and issues of regional, national and international importance
  2. Paper 2 – History, Culture and Geography of India and Andhra Pradesh
  3. Paper 3 – Constitution, Polity, Governance, Law and Ethics
  4. Paper 4 – Economy and Development of India and Andhra Pradesh
  5. Paper 5 – Science, Technology and Environmental Issues

Note: The candidates can answer the above papers in English/Telugu/Urdu depending on the preference stated in the online application.

All merit ranking papers must be written in the same language.

The candidates who clear the Mains stage are then called for an interview with the Andhra Pradesh Services Commission - APPSC board. Usually, candidates are called in the ratio of 2:1 with respect to the number of vacancies.

The final merit list is prepared based on:

  • Candidates’ marks in Mains: out of 750 marks (150 * 5)
  • Interview: 75 marks
  • Out of a total of 825 marks.
